Chase Lind moved into select company when the Fairfield Ludlowe junior captured the 152-pound weight class at the Class L wrestling championships at Bristol Central High on Saturday.

Lind, the second seed, won a 3-0 decision over top-seeded Brett Leonard from New Milford and joined George Wales and Henry Fatigate as winning state titles.

Coach Nick Garoffolo’s Falcons (129) placed fourth in the event, won by New Milford (264) followed by Fairfield Warde (228.5) and Middletown (137).

“This is the highest team place ever,” Garoffolo said. “Last year the team finished sixth.

For the  second year in a row, senior George Wales made it to the 120-pound finals but this year he finished second. George is the only two-time finalist for Ludlowe.

Lee Stenild-Johansen (5-1) placed third at 170. Bobby Clark (3-2) placed fourth at 138 and Billy Stapleton (3-3) at 285 placed sixth.

All five of these wrestlers have qualified for the State Open to be held at Hillhouse  High in New Haven next week.

Austin Sherman 113 (2-2), Zachary Taylor 106 (2-2), Nate Nelson 182 (2-2) and Pat O’Donovan (1-2) also won matches to help score points for the team.
