Film critic Joe Meyers will share his views of this year’s nominees for the upcoming Academy Awards at the Y’s Women meeting Monday, Feb. 23, at 10:45 a.m., at Temple Israel, 10 Coleytown Road, Westport. Event begins with coffee and conversation at 10:45, followed by the program at 11:30.

As the entertainment writer for the Connecticut Post and the Hearst Media News Group, Joe Meyers juggles critiques of films, theatre and books. His recent columns have covered the play, Forever, at Long Wharf Theatre, Jesse Muller playing Carol King in Beautiful, the dance program MOMIX, and the book, Sympathy for the Devil, about Gore Vidal. With producer Sean Hydock, he also recently launched a new podcast, “Off Book,” exploring the lives of New York theatre artists. The blog can be found at www.wildroot.org.

The Y’s Women, founded in 1992, serves active and involved working and retired women in Fairfield County, and has a membership of more than 400 members. Members are offered the opportunity to join and participate in a wide a range of satellite groups, including three book clubs; a lively current events discussion group; a foreign film series; bridge with a closing marathon for prize money; “Solos” for singles; a weekly walking group; monthly group trips to area museums and other interesting sites, and the more far-reaching group tours to cultural and historical events in NYC, the tri-state area, and newly on trips abroad.
