Fairfield Ludlowe’s Chase Lind brought home the 152-pound title when coach Nick Garoffolo’s Falcons took fourth at the 2015 Joe Sikorski FCIAC Wrestling Championships at New Canaan High on Saturday.

Ludlowe had four wrestlers in the finals and scored 121 points to place behind Danbury High (293), Fairfield Warde (222.5) and Trumbull (208.5). Greenwich (114) was fifth.

“Chase led the team by winning the finals for the second year in a row,” Garoffolo said. “Austin Sherman 113, George Wales 120 and Lee Stenild-Johansen 170 took silver.

“Bobby Clark 138 took third and Billy Stapleton 285 took fifth.

“Second seed Marcus Sherrod 145 did not wrestle because of an injury, but he should be able to wrestle in the L states (at Bristol Central) next weekend.

“We did about as well as I expected. Placing fourth as a team behind Danbury, Warde and Trumbull is always a good result.

“I knew without Marcus it was going to be difficult placing fourth, but the boys wrestled very well and made it happen.

“We had four in the finals, which was our best final since 2008 when we took second and had five finalists.

“Chase is the second two-time champ. Henry Fatigate won it twice: 2008 an 09, Pat Osborne won it once 2008 and Mike Sheehan won 2010 and Rowans Hines was our first FCIAC champion 2005.”

Lind, a junior, won a 5-3 decision from Trumbull High’s Adam Angelucci in the finals.

Another junior, Sherman lost to Danbury’s Aaron Occhipiniti 6-3 in his final.

Wales, a senior, was decisioned 5-0 by Danbury’s Jeremy Fields.

Stenild-Johansen saw his hopes of winning a title lost when the junior lost a hotly contested 7-3 decision to Trumbull’s Joey Ryan.

Clark, a junior, won his consolation final from Harding of Bridgeport’s Jon Maldonado with a pin in 3:58.

Stapleton, a junior at heavyweight, pinned Warde’s Tyler Mazut in 49 seconds.
