WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: Up to 7 inches possible in Fairfield

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Fairfield and all of Fairfield County from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

“Light snow develops Saturday afternoon, becoming heavy at times Saturday night into early Sunday morning before tapering off by early Sunday afternoon,” the NWS said.

The NWS said that “considerable blowing and drifting snow, with near blizzard conditions is possible.”

From 3 to 7 inches of snow is expected to accumulate in Fairfield, which is an increase of a few inches from predictions a few hours earlier.

Due to strong winds, including possible gusts up to 60 mph, there could be problems with downed power lines and tree limbs, the NWS said.

Massachusetts, Maine get more snow

More serious weather alerts have gone out for areas in Connecticut east of Fairfield County — with a Winter Storm Watch for New Haven County, and the more severe Winter Storm Warning for eastern Connecticut, meaning these parts of the state are more likely to experience bad weather.

Based on its current course, the brunt of this storm is supposed to hit eastern Long Island and far eastern New England. Blizzard warnings have been issued for parts of eastern Massachusetts and coastal Maine, where up to 14 inches of snow could fall.
