Fairfield Weather: Arctic temperatures on the way

Flurries continue as of noon on Thursday in Fairfield, and have been falling for much of the late morning.

The snow doesn’t appear to be accumulating, although there has been a few brief bursts of heavier snowfall at times.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the snow could pick up after 4 p.m. although only about an inch is expected to accumulate before it ends around 9 p.m.

Snow also is likely on Saturday and Saturday night in Fairfield, with 2 to 4 inches possible, the NWS said.

Arctic temperatures on the way

The real weather story in the coming days will be the cold. A blast of arctic air is about to arrive and will bring extreme cold to Fairfield and the region.

Thursday: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday night: A chance of snow showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. Wind chill values between -10 and zero. Northwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: Sunny and cold, with a high near 13. Wind chill values between -5 and -15. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Friday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9. Wind chill values between zero and 5. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Saturday: A chance of snow, mainly after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 13. Blustery. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Sunday: A chance of snow before noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 15. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 0. Blustery.

Monday (Presidents Day): Mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 18.

Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 8.
