Fairfield girls hockey team upsets New Canaan, 6-4

Mary Edmonds scored five goals and goalie Phoebe Cascella had 50 saves to help the Fairfield girls ice hockey team upset the New Canaan Rams, 6-4, Thursday at the Wonderland of Ice.

Fairfield, which led 1-0 after one period and 4-3 after two, overcame a hat trick by the Rams’ Catherine Granito to get the win.

New Canaan fell to 9-5-1 overall and 7-3-1 in the FCIAC, while Fairfield climbed to 7-7 overall and 4-6 in the conference.

Mackenzie Lewis scored the Rams’ other goal, and Mia Carroll and Gianna Bruno each had an assist. Goalie Sarah Street made 18 saves.

For Fairfield, Sierra Furey scored once, and Zhenna Milo and Sarah Powlishen each had an assist.
