Music, chocolate and champagne

New York City’s Young Artists from Opera Singers Initiative will perform songs of love, “Roses are Red: An Evening for Opera Lovers” Saturday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., in Pequot Library’s acoustically renowned Auditorium/Concert Hall. The concert will be followed by a Chocolate and Champagne Toast to Love at 8. Tickets are $15 at pequotlibrary.org in advance or $20 at the door.

Performers include Amy Kwon, soprano whose resume includes a masters of music at Columbia University (in progress), and a bachelor’s of music from Peabody Conservatory.

Andrew Hiers, bass-baritone who received his bachelor of music, voice performance from Florida State University in 2011 and was a resident artist in the Dicapo Opera Theatre from 2012-2014.

Anita Lyons, Soprano is quickly creating a niche for herself in the dramatic repertoire, most recently performing the title role of La Gioconda and the Primadonna/Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), both performed at Lincoln Center with New York Opera Forum.

Elizabeth Novella, soprano has a master of music from Manhattan School of Music 2014, and a bachelor of arts – music from Bard College in 2012.

Melanie Ashkar, mezzo-soprano will receive her master of music in voice from Mannes College (in progress) in 2016. She received her master of science in linguistics from Georgetown University in 2014 and her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Linguistics (High Distinction) from the University of Virginia in 2011.

Opera Singers Initiative (OSI) is committed to providing classical singers with the critical skills and support they need to build a sustainable and successful career in the arts. They provide career development, mentoring, and performance opportunities for emerging professional classical singers.

The Institute provides hand-selected opera singers with career development (marketing, finance, fundraising, performance preparation, agent review, industry showcase), performance opportunities, mentoring and career consultation with arts and business professionals. It provides a 12-month New York City OSI Vocal Institute and two-week OSI Vocal Institute Summer Intensive as a part of our comprehensive Institute.
