Public hearing on mental health coverage Feb. 5

Brenda Kupchick State Rep. 132nd General Assembly District announces there will be a public hearing on mental health coverage held by the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee Thursday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m., in Room 2D of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

Kupchick has submitted legislation regarding insurance coverage for treatment of mental health in Connecticut. I have advocated for increased mental health coverage since first taking office in 2011.

The legislation, HB-5259, An Act Expanding Health Insurance Coverage for the Treatment of Mental or Nervous Conditions will be getting a public hearing Feb. 5.

The proposal would require health insurance to increase coverage for the treatment of mental or nervous conditions, including coverage for treatment by any health care provider an individual chooses and coverage for long-term hospitalization for any such treatment.

If you plan to testify make sure your remarks are clear and concise. Many committees limit testimony to accommodate everyone that wants to speak. Please submit 25 copies of written testimony to Committee staff two hours prior to the start of the hearing in Room 2800 of the LOB. Written testimony should be turned in before the hearing begins. It will then become part of the permanent legislative record. This process is due to the deadlines in which committees can hold public hearings and meet to discuss issues.

If you cannot attend the public hearing but wish to submit testimony, email the testimony to the committee at: [email protected]
