Oscar nominated ‘Boyhood’ screening at FTC

The Fairfield Theatre Company will present Richard Linklater Oscar nominated film, Boyhood on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m., 70 Sanford Street. Doors open at 7.

Boyhood is a fictional drama filmed over a 12-year period with the same cast of actors tells the groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (played by Ellar Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before the audience’s eyes. The film tracks Mason life’s most radically fluctuating decade, through a familiar whirl of family moves, family controversies, faltering marriages, re-marriages, new schools, first loves, lost loves, good times, scary times and a constantly unfolding mix of heartbreak and wonder. But the results in this remarkable film are unpredictable, as one moment interlaces into the next, entwining into a deeply personal experience of the events that shape the nature of life.

Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason’s parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, Boyhood charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has ever had before. Snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and graduations and all the moments in between become transcendent, as the film is set to a soundtrack which can be described as a music time capsule and spans the years from Coldplay’s Yellow to Arcade Fire’s Deep Blue.

Movie lovers get ready and see why the Academy of Motion Pictures has nominated this amazing film that can be considered a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting.

For tickets, at $17 in advance, $20 at the door, visit fairfieldtheatre.org or call 203-259-1036.
