FTC welcomes guitar master, Leo Kottke

Master guitarist Leo Kottke comes to Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne Friday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Raised in 12 different states as a child, Leo Kottke absorbed a variety of musical influences before he picked up the guitar at the age of 11. Yet, Kottke’s career didn’t begin until a fluke firework accident caused him to be discharged from the Naval Reserve and lead him to attend St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

Kottke left before completing his studies, choosing instead to hitchhike around the country, busking for a living. As the saying goes “all roads lead back home,” and Kottke returned to Minnesota and settled in the Twin Cities where he became a regular performer at the Scholar Coffeehouse in the Cedar-Riverside, Minneapolis area in the autumn of 1966. It was at the Scholar Coffeehouse that Kottke would record his debut album, 12-String Blues, an album which was released on the independent Oblivion record label in 1969. The album remains one of his most successful works to this day and has been re-released countless times by various record labels.

Having performed for more than four decades, Kottke now returns to StageOne and is bringing his powerful classical jazz-oriented compositions and masterful guitar techniques to the intimate venue. Audiences get ready as Leo Kottke gives one of the hypnotic performers that have made him a Guitar Magazines Hall of Fame Member.

The Fairfield Theatre Company strongly urges you to buy your tickets early, because for audiences who have seen Kottke’s unique talent they will be the first ones to tell you, “this show will sell out.” So get out and join FTC in welcoming one of music’s best guitarists.

StageOne is located at 70 Sanford Street, Fairfield.
