State Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey (D-Fairfield) announces the Housing Committee has agreed to hold a public hearing Thursday, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m., at the Board of Alders Chambers, 165 Church Street (2nd floor), New Haven to address the affordable housing statute to find a sustainable solution that will help Fairfield and other towns with the affordable housing mandate.

The existing law, otherwise known as 8-30 g, has been used by contractors to bypass local zoning laws creating serious concerns for neighborhoods in Fairfield and other cities and towns.

“This is an important hearing on several bills concerning this housing mandate and I encourage all those affected to come and share your thoughts,” Rep. McCarthy Vahey said. “This is a pressing issue that requires public support to help the legislation move through the process.”

Several proposals have been submitted to the Housing Committee that will be heard at the public hearing.

Rep. McCarthy Vahey serves Fairfield’s 133rd District and is a member of the Appropriations, Education and Transportation Committees.
