Fairfield students participate in symphony festival

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra will host its third Young Artists’ Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 7 and 8, at the Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue in Norwalk.

This day-long festival is open to string and wind students of all levels who have at least two years of study and have not yet graduated high school. The festival offers four different levels which serve to encourage and recognize the talented young musicians in Fairfield County. Additionally, the festival will host a Concerto Competition which is open to all instrumentalists through high school.

Festival registrar and NSO Board Member Becki Christopherson observes, “The primary purpose of this festival is to give young musicians the opportunity to perform in the context of the greater Fairfield County musical community. Opportunities like this did not exist in Fairfield County prior to our festival, but are common throughout the country. “

Participating Fairfield residents are Leo Manzone, Harry Graney Green, and Meghai Chaudhury. Congratulations are due to Harry for being accepted to the Concerto Competition Level after a qualifying video round. The winners of the Junior and Senior Festival Levels, who will win cash prizes of $150 and $300 respectively, will be announced at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 in the lobby of Norwalk City Hall.

The Concerto Competition is free and open to the public and runs from 4:45 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8. The winner will be announced at 8:15 p.m., also in the lobby. The winner of the Concerto Competition will perform his or her concerto movement with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra in the Family Concert on Sunday, March 8, at 3 p.m., at Norwalk Concert Hall.
