Fairfield chef kicks off “What’s Cooking?” series

Fairfield Public Library’s new “What’s Cooking?” series with Shawn Russell, chef/owner of Cinch gourmet meal market in Fairfield kicks off Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m., in the Rotary Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Russell will talk about his story of becoming a chef and share a taste of a favorite recipe.

After a successful career as a business owner, Russell decided to follow his lifelong dream of becoming a chef. Upon graduating from the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City, he won a finalist spot in the Asti Spumante Brindiamo cooking competition, earning a scholarship to study at the top international program, the Italian Food Style Education Culinary Institute (IFSE) in Turin, Italy. After an internship and freelance work for Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine, Shawn decided to embark on his next business venture, Cinch.

Cinch, a gourmet meal market specializing in prepared meals, is the creation of Shawn and his wife Kelly. Cinch also offers cooking workshops for all skill levels, as well as private cooking classes. Russell is happy to share not only his love for food, but his passion for food preparation and recipe creation.

The “What’s Cooking?” series features local chefs who share the back stories behind their cooking lives as well as a favorite cook book and recipe. Other chefs visiting this spring include Barbara Scala, chef and caterer, on April 8 and Selma Miriam of the Bloodroot Restaurant on May 5.
