Himes honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) today participated in the University of Bridgeport’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Himes joined more than 500 volunteers this morning to work on community service projects throughout the city to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy.

“I am honored to join my fellow Fairfield County citizens in celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King dedicated his life to the unyielding pursuit of justice and equality for all people. His message of peace, love and compassion inspired and changed our nation. As we reflect on Dr. King’s teachings and contributions, it’s fitting that we dedicate ourselves to serving our communities. We have come so far in our efforts to fulfill the dream of Dr. King and his contemporaries, but there is still work to be done. Fifty years after Dr. King’s leadership helped bring about the Voting Rights Act, we must keep fighting to ensure all American citizens can exercise their fundamental right to vote. I will continue urging Congress to restore the full protections of this historic law.”
