Fairfield Warde girls remain unbeaten

Mustangs top New Canaan 64-34, off to 11-0 start

The Fairfield Warde Mustangs girls basketball kept its perfect record intact with a 64-34 victory over the New Canaan Rams Friday night at NCHS.

Warde (11-0 overall, 9-0 FCIAC) led from start to finish, building a 16-8 lead after one quarter and a 32-14 advantage at halftime.

Sophomore center Shania Osborne had the hot hand, raking up 23 points — 13 in the first half and 10 in the second. Junior forward Sarah Cotto scored 13 points, and two more sophomores, Daja Polk and Iliana Krasniqi, had 10 and eight points, respectively.

For New Canaan (4-6, 3-5), senior point guard Elizabeth Miller led the offense with 10 points and five assists, and three rebounds, while junior Katie DeMario had six points. Senior forward Marina Braccio added six assists, and Campbell Armstrong, a sophomore, pulled in six rebounds.

New Canaan will face another tough customer on Tuesday when it hosts Ridgefield at 7 p.m.. The Tigers are 9-2 overall and 7-2 in the FCIAC after losing to Stamford on Friday.

Warde will play at Westhill at 7 p.m., Tuesday. The Vikings lost to Danbury on Friday and are 3-7 overall and 2-6 in the FCIAC. After that, the road is a bit tougher for the Mustangs as they face Greenwich (8-2, 6-2), Stamford, and Ridgefield in succession.
