Warde boys fall to Blue Wave, 53-44

The Darien Blue Wave rode enough crests Tuesday to post its second boys’ basketball win of the season, 53-44 at home over Fairfield Warde.

Marcel Parsons led the Mustangs in scoring with 14, while J.J. Conway added 12 and Chris Smaldone hit for nine points.

Warde fell to 2-6 overall, 2-4 in the FCIAC.

Alex Preston, Darien’s 6-foot-7 sophomore forward, opened the game with a dunk in the opening seconds, jammed another home late in the fourth. Preston finished with 31 points.

Darien led 11-9 after the first quarter, and surged to a 14-2 second quarter and a 25-11 halftime lead.

Warde was more aggressive on defense and forced early turnovers in the second half, posting a 14-0 run and knotting the game at 25 before a 6-0 run by Darien turned the tide permanently for the Blue Wave, which improved to 2-5, 2-4 in the FCIAC.
