Hear three original "Freedom Riders"

The Bridgeport Public Education Fund & Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition invite the public to hear three original “FREEDOM RIDERS” — Has Anything Changed? Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Holiday Inn, 1070 Main Street, Bridgeport.

Keynote speakers are Joan Browning, Dion Diamond and Reginald Green.

For tickets, at $25, $15 (high school and college students), visit bpef.org.

The first Freedom Ride began on May 4, 1961, when seven black and six white riders left Washington, DC on two public buses bound for the Deep South. They intended to test whether the southern states would enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling that declared segregation in interstate bus and rail stations unconstitutional. This initial ride led to countless other Americans joining the Civil Rights movement.
