Insurance fraud charges in case of burning car

Lina Ivette Corchado, 36, of Nordstrand Avenue turned herself in to police headquarters yesterday and was charged with falsely reporting a stolen motor vehicle and insurance fraud.

On February 10 2014, Corchado told police she started her car – a 2009 Jeep Patriot –outside her residence early that morning to warm it up before going to work, and that when she went out a short time later, the car was gone.

While Fairfield police were taking Corchado’s statement, Bridgeport police notified them that Corchado’s car had been found engulfed in flames on Alsace Street in Bridgeport.

Police said that through questioning of Corchado, they learned further details of the case linking her to the car’s destruction.

Corchado was given a $30,000 bond and a court date of Dec. 23.
