Fleeing accident on Reef Road, driver hits car on Longdean

Police said a driver hit two cars in two separate accidents Saturday, Dec. 6.

The owner of a car parked in front of 535 Reef Road told police he watched as James Rafferty, 48, of Forest Avenue, hit his car, backed up, and then struck the car again before driving away Saturday night.

The owner called police, who a short time later, at about 8:30, received a report of an accident on Longdean Road.

A witness to the accident on Longdean Road told officers that Rafferty was stopped for no apparent reason near the intersection of Longdean and Veres Street when he suddenly turned onto Longdean at a high rate of speed and plowed into another parked car.

According to the report, Rafferty appeared dazed, with dilated pupils, slurred speech and a laceration on his forehead. Rafferty was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for evaluation.
