New program offers snow removal for seniors

Fairfield dodged the weather bullet Mother Nature fired at Buffalo last week, but the unfortunate city’s six-plus feet of snowfall serves as a reminder that winter is most definitely on its way.

And just in time, Fairfield Senior Center Director of Human Services Terry Giegengack has announced a new program sponsored by the center, called “Shoveling for Seniors.”

The program will connect senior citizens in need of shoveling with high school students, scouts and youth group members looking for community service projects or paid work.

The senior center is suggesting a $10-per-hour rate, although it’s up to shovelers and residents to negotiate their own payment terms.

Interested students should call the Senior Center at (203) 256-3166.
