GFA cagers out to repeat success on hardwood

Coming off back-to-back New England Prep School and Class C boys basketball tournament titles, Greens Farms Academy looks like they might have the pieces to again make some noise in contending for both NEPSAC and Fairchesther Athletic Association titles.
The Dragons graduated four seniors from their double championship rotation, the most key being the school’s all-time assists and steals leader All-New England point guard Matt Tate
GFA brings back a trio of All-New England honorees with Zach Baines, Jim Djema and Sunday Okeke.
Baines is a 2015 McDonalds High School All-American nominee and is the reigning two-time New England championship game MVP.
The 6-8 Okeke is rated as one of the top sophomores in the nation and has already drawn interest from ACC, SEC and Ivy League schools.
The challenge for Greens Farms will be integrating six new players into their aggressive schemes.
Big guards  Isaac Manton and Chile Larraguibel transferred in from Greenwich High’s state championship tournament team.
Point guard Evan Roteman also transferred  in, after being the leading scorer as a freshman on the Harvey School’s varsity team last year.
Mack Muller, after spending the last two years on GFA coach Doug Scott’s state championship AAU teams, transferred in from Staples High of Westport.
GFA’s home grown freshman, Henry Holzinger is also impressing early as being able to contribute at the varsity level.
GFA’s season will get off to their most challenging December schedule in school history. In addition to battling FAA contender St Lukes, GFA will take on Class A powerhouse Choate Rosemary Hall in the Roundball Scholar Classic in Boston.
From there, GFA will go to play in a holiday tournament hosted by perennial New England powerhouse, Pingree School of Hamilton, MA. GFA eked by Pingree in both the New England championship game in 2013 and then again in the New England semifinals in 2014.
