Emergency crews respond to Warde for steam leak

On Tuesday, just before noon, Fairfield’s Emergency Communication Center received a water flow alarm indicating an activated sprinkler system at Fairfield Warde High School. Fairfield Fire Companies 2 and 3 were dispatched, with Ladder 2 arriving first on the scene reporting that the building had been evacuated and the alarm was sounding.

Upon further investigation a leaking steam pipe was found in a tunnel under the building and the students were allowed back.

Company 1 and the Fire Department Safety Officer called to the scene along with American Medical Response to assist in a confined space entry to identify the leaking pipe. Entry was completed and units began being placed in service by 12:48 p.m., with Car 3 last unit to clear at 1:09 p.m. turning the scene over to Fairfield Public Schools for repair.
