Santa’s visiting town on Nov. 29

Hot chocolate, wreaths, holiday cards, ornaments and tickets to various events and so much more will be available at the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce’s annual Santa’s Arrival.

Community non-profit organizations will line up on the Sherman Green in Fairfield to sell an assortment of holiday items on Saturday, Nov. 29. Santa Claus will arrive by hook-and-ladder down Reef Road at 10 a.m. He will sit in the gazebo until about 2 p.m. to listen to the wishes of children. Each child will then receive a small holiday gift item, sponsored by Bankwell.

The chamber has invited town organizations and others to sell items to support their programs or benefit a charity. This year, these organizations will set-up booths on the green to offer face-painting, baked goods, hot cider, tickets or discounts to local events, ornaments, reindeer food, letters to Santa and more. Several organizations will sell or give away holiday sweets, ranging from oversize cookies to candy and hot chocolate.

A portion of the proceeds from all participants will be donated to charity, and many of the organizations will use all of the money made at Santa’s Arrival to further their own or other charitable causes.

There will be a children’s petting zoo, from 10 AM to 1 PM weather permitting, as well as horse and buggy rides, sponsored by Bigelow Tea, Fairfield University, Splash Car Wash, and Massage Envy, from 10 to 2 p.m. The Kiwanis Club will provide breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers. Gazebo holiday music provided by The Computer Doctor, Fairfield.

In the case of heavy snow or rain, the event will be canceled.

The chamber is offering non-profits the opportunity to participate in the Santa’s Arrival event. Any individual or organization that is willing to give the proceeds of the day to a charity of its choice is welcome to participate. The chamber will assign space within the general framework of a 10 x 10 area, and all participants are expected to bring their own tables, tents, volunteers and signal. Although there are no exclusives, all items for sale must be discussed with the chamber office prior to the event.
