Xavier rallies to defeat Prep, 35-28

The Fairfield Prep football team lost a 35-28 decision to SCC rival Xavier High in Middletown on Friday.
Coach Tom Shea’s Jesuits are now 7-3 and holding onto the eighth and final Class LL playoff spot. They play at West Haven (5-5) on Thanksgiving.
Xavier (7-3) scored the last two touchdowns to rally back from a 28-21 fourth-quarter deficit.
Prep fell behind the Falcons 13-0 in the second quarter, before Colton Smith threw touchdown passes of 9 yards to John Dellisanti and 39 yards to Cameron Harris. Hank Healey made two of his four PATs to stake the Jesuits to a 14-13 halftime lead.
Smith’s 27-yard touchdown pass to Dellisanti made it 21-13 after three quarters.
Xavier’s Mike Scherer ran 76 yards for his second touchdown and the two-point conversion pass tied the game.
Smith scored from 11 yards out to give Prep a 28-21 lead, but Scherer tossed two touchdown passes down the stretch.
