Police: Man impersonated brother to evade warrants

FS-WP-FPD-SIGN

Police said Fairfield resident Brett Salters, 53, identified himself as his brother when he was stopped for driving with an expired registration on Tunxis Hill Road yesterday.

The officer who pulled Salters over initially let him go, believing he was his brother. The officer learned Salters’ true identity after a  further investigation revealed he was wanted in Fairfield, Westport and Bridgeport on warrants for failure to appear in court.

Fairfield police apprehended Salters at his Fairfield house, where he admitted giving a false identity to avoid the warrants. They charged Salters with criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer.

Salters was released on $110,000 total bond for all the charges and given court dates of Nov. 25 and Dec. 2.
