Go fish! Regional aquaculture high school holds open house

The Bridgeport Regional Aquaculture Science and Technology Education Center, a regional high school for students in Fairfield, Bridgeport, Milford, Monroe, Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull, will provide information about its programs at an open house on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Aquaculture School enhances the traditional academic high school curriculum with a specialized emphasis on science and technology instruction as related to the development of aquaculture in Connecticut, according to its website. The school says it has specialized laboratories and classrooms that compliment its marine-related curriculum, and include a seafood science laboratory, an aquaculture finfish/shellfish lab, a marine construction shop, a marine propulsion and electronics lab and a computer-assisted design and drafting lab. The school also contains a modern telecommunications system capable of several educational functions, including a computer network and a remote visual display system.

In addition, the school has a 56-foot research vessel, the Catherine Moore.

During next Thursday’s information session, the school will present an overview of its programs and courses, and hand out applications for the upcoming school year.

For more information, call Lea Catherman, the school’s director, at (203)275-2926.
