Hao Xin Lu, 33, of Fairfield, was charged last Friday night with leaving a child unsupervised. According to the police report, Lu left his sleeping five-year-old in his car, which was parked near the downtown Fairfield train station, while he looked for a rental car also parked in the lot.

A special police officer patrolling near the train station noticed the sleeping child in the locked car at around 8:30 p.m., and observed that the car was cold, inferring that the car’s driver had been absent for some time.

The special officer called Fairfield police, who arrived on the scene and waited for an additional several minutes before Lu pulled up in his rental car, which he was moving to a weekend spot.

Lu was released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 19, and the Connecticut Department of Children and Families was notified.
