The Fairfield Giants Pee Wee football team completed  its second consecutive playoff shutout victory by defeating the Newington Knights, 20-0, in the Southern Ct Pop Warner League Division II championship game on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Quarterback Nick Morris hit tight end Grady Bartlet on a 35-yard strike for the first score of the game, giving the Giants a 6-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Gavin Toth took a weak side sweep 30 yards, zig-zaging his way through Newington defenders, before diving for the pylon and in for the score. Morris would hit the PAT, making the score 14-0 at the half.
Fairfield mounted a 65-yard, 7-minute drive to open  the third quarter.
Impressive runs and precision passing move the ball to the Newington 3-yard line, where Morris took a sneak off tackle for the final score of the game, extending the lead to 20-0.
The Giants defense was the story of the day, shutting down the Newington’s high power offense all four quarters.
Middle linebacker Charlie Wilcox led the defense with 9 tackles and numerous assists.
Outside linebacker’s John Reynolds and Finn Donelan contained the Newington running backs and Fairfield free safeties Kyle Stevenson and Mike Innaimo shut down the passing game.
All the while, defensive lineman Freddy Capossela, Peter Strang, Dylan Fragameni and Tommy O’Connell pressured the backfield, squashing the run game and limiting the time to pass.
Other game standouts were Owen Miller, Anthony Bambus,Grady Golier, Luke Oligino, Trevor Knisely, Jed Keresey, Luke Martucci, Max Spies, Robert Delia and Joe Sangiulo.
