Pee Wees defeat Amity to gain SCPW final

The Fairfield Giants Pee Team advanced to the SCPW championships for the second consecutive year after defeating the Spartans of Amity, 7-0, in a rain-driven Noreaster that roared through Saturday afternoon.
With the nasty weather being the great qqualizer, the Giants defense took center stage. Amity’s spread offense passing game was severely hampered by both the rain and by Giant defenders. By pressuring the quarterback, along with blanketing pass coverage, the Amity offense was shutout for the first time all season.
Charlie Wilcox, Freddy Capossella, Peter Strang, Grady Bartlet and Gavin Toth were among the defensive standouts.
Fighting the the wind and rain, the Giants offense slashed down field, entering the red zone twice. Both drives were stalled short of the end zone with untimely lost fumbles.
The lone score of the game came early in the second quarter when quarterback Nick Morris rolled right looking for an open receiver down field.
Reading the coverage, Morris tucked the ball and turned on the jets. Rolling over Amity defenders, he sprinted 50 yards down the home sideline and in for the score. Mike Innaimo would add the PAT.
The Giants will spend the week preparing for a rematch with division rival Newington. The championship game will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, in West Haven.
