Midget Giants to play for Pop Warner title

The Fairfield Jr. Midget Giants notched their ninth consecutive victory and will compete for the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner championship for the second straight year.
To get there, they had to battle not only abysmal weather conditions, but a much improved Trumbull squad. Fairfield won 35-14.
Finn Duran led the Giants with four touchdown runs, one a backbreaking 70-yard kickoff return. Brandon Moutinho also had a big night and scored Fairfield’s final touchdown.
Fairfield’s dominant defense has allowed an average of 8 points per game and was once again the difference maker.
Owen Cirilli, who had been sidelined with a broken finger for several weeks, returned to the line-up and gave them added spark, making several key tackles.
As they have all season, Ryan McManus, Henry Houghton, Jake Simonelli, Anthony Espinosa, Hayden Beiser, Jeff Meyers, Owen Sherman, Sam Roberto, Gage Dias and Brian Kiremidjian played tough, solid defense.
They came up with big plays in crucial spots and limited a strong Trumbull running game to just two scores.
The Giants will spend the week preparing for a rematch with division rival, Milford.  The championship game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 9, in West Haven.
