SHU student brawl after Halloween party

Police responded to a large group fight at 2:40 a.m. Saturday on Jefferson Street.

According to the police report, a group of Sacred Heart University students had just returned by bus from a Halloween party in Waterbury when a fight broke out in the middle of the street. The fight reportedly developed over accusations of harassment of a woman on the bus.

A 20-year-old man in the group who said he had been hit by a baseball bat and was bleeding severely from his mouth was taken to St. Vincent’s hospital.  The man had also had “teeth pushed in,” according to the report.

Other people in the group of approximately 16 suffered bumps and bruises in the fight.

Police said they have tentatively identified the person who swung the bat and are continuing to investigate.
