The town will begin weekly autumn pick-up of leaf bags Monday, Nov. 10.

The town of Fairfield will begin its fall leaf collection Monday, Nov. 10.

There will be four weekly pick-ups during the weeks of November 10, November 17, December 1 and December 8 for all residents except those in the Greenfield Hill Leaf Collection Area, north of Hulls Farm Road and west of Burr Street, and the area east of Burr Street and north of Congress Street ( see the Leaf Collection Area Map for details).

There will be no pickup during Thanksgiving week, to allow residents extra time to finish their raking. There is no specific daily pick-up schedule. Bags must be curbside on Mondays by 6:00 a.m. to assure pick-up during that week.

Residents in the Greenfield Hill Leaf Collection Area should call the town garage at 203-256-3177 before Monday, Nov. 24 to arrange for leaf pickup before Thanksgiving and may call during the week following Thanksgiving for an additional pickup.

Leaves must be in unsealed, biodegradable paper bags.

The town will not pick up plastic bags, loose leaves, brush, branches, wood, grass, or bags placed outside the town right-of-way (for example, along driveways, or inside stone walls or fences).

In order to avoid blocking catch basins, residents are reminded to not rake leaves into the gutter or street. Residents are also asked to make an effort to keep the catch basin grates in the vicinity of their homes clear of leaves and debris to prevent local flooding.

Leaves will also be accepted at the Harvest New England facility on Richard White Way (One Rod Highway) through December 15. The facility will be open with expanded hours on Monday-Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. beginning November 1. All other normal Harvest New England rules and policies remain in effect. Residents with a valid beach/ dump Sticker on their vehicle can drop off less than 500 pounds of yard waste for no fee. Vehicles with loads greater than 500 pounds or vehicles with no stickers will be charged the applicable commercial rate.

Harvest New England hours from December 16, 2014 through February 28, 2015 are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Harvest New England will be open on Saturday, January 10 and Saturday, January 17 for Christmas tree and other yard waste disposal from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Residents are advised contact the town garage with any questions at 203-256-3176.
