Police responded to a bomb threat at the Seagrape Inn and Cafe Friday night.

Fairfield University dispatch reported a possible bomb threat to the Sea Grape Inn Friday night.

Police said Fairfield University’s switchboard received a call at 10 p.m. Friday warning of a “possible” bombing of the Sea Grape Inn, 1144 Reef Road, that night.

Police evacuated the inn by 11:30 p.m., and a fire alarm pulled at the adjacent Sea Grape Cafe at 11:40 emptied the restaurant and bar as well.

A state bomb technician and bomb canine, called in by Fairfield police, inspected and cleared the scene by 12:37 a.m., at which point guests and diners were allowed back in to the establishments.

Fairfield police said an extensive investigation into the telephone number the bomb threat was made from determined that the owners of the phone were not responsible for the call.

The matter remains under investigation.
