Prep knocks off unbeaten Cheshire, 44-28

The Fairfield Prep football team kept its state playoffs hopes alive with a resounding 44-28 road victory over previously unbeaten SCC rival Cheshire High on Friday.
Coach Tom Shea’s Jesuits are now 5-2, while the Rams are 6-1.
Colton Smith ran for 208 yards (two scores) and passed for 328 yards (three touchdowns).
Hank Healey gave Prep a 3-0 lead with a 33-yard field goal. Smith, who completed 12 of 23 passes, then hooked up with John Dellisanti for a 79 yard score and a 9-0 lead.
Cheshire, which was led by Andrew Yamin who accounted for four scores, made it 9-6 after one period.
The Jesuits put up 29 points in the second stanza to lead 35-20 at the half.
Smith (19 and 16 yards) and Joe Ganim (10 yards) ran for touchdowns in the second period.
Cam Harris caught a 72-yard scoring pass and Bobby Haskins latched on to a 15-yard aerial in the quarter. Healey kicked three PATs and Patrick Conte ran for a two-point conversion.
Ganim’s 32-yard run and a Kealey PAT in the third quarter made the score 44-20.
