Fawcett, Cook-Littman endorsed by environmental groups

The Sierra Club and the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters have endorsed Tara Cook-Littman for state representative in the 134th District. Both organizations are dedicated to protecting the environment and the earth’s natural resources.

“I am thrilled to have the support of the two largest environmental organizations that endorse candidates in Connecticut,” Cook-Littman said. “It is a testament both to the work I’ve done as an advocate and the vision we’ve presented to move Connecticut forward.”

Cook-Littman’s advocacy  at the state legislature as the director of GMO Free Connecticut helped lead to the passage of the nation’s first GMO labeling law.

“We have an obligation to preserve and protect our environment for future generations,” Cook-Littman said. “We also must build a future for them that is sustainable and prosperous. That is why I believe that we must protect the environment while we expand opportunities in Connecticut for sustainable, green industries and help those companies that want to do the right thing.”

“The Sierra Club was privileged to work closely with Tara on the GMO labeling legislation,” said Martin Mador, legislative and political chair of the Sierra Club’s Connecticut chapter. “She proved an extraordinary advocate working so effectively on behalf of the public interest, the environment, and the health of our fellow residents of Connecticut. We look forward to continuing to work with her as a legislator to pursue these issues that are so important to us all.”

Kim Fawcett also received the Sierra Club’s endorsement of her candidacy for state Senate District 28.

“On behalf of our 8,000 members, the Sierra Club-Connecticut chapter endorses your 2014 candidacy for the Connecticut State Senate,” Mador wrote in an endorsement letter to Fawcett. “This endorsement has been ratified by both the state Political Committee and the state Executive Committee. Our decision is based on your thoughtful responses to our questionnaire and the endorsement process, as well as your record of commitment to environmental issues and your strong record of environmental support in the legislature.”

Fawcett, who has served as a Fairfield state representative for the past eight years, said she will continue to work to make Connecticut a leader on environmental issues.

“Championing legislation that protects our precious natural resources has always been one of my top priorities, and I look forward to advancing these causes in 2015,” Fawcett said.
