Painter arrested after allegedly going through homeowner's purse

Fairfield police said they arrested Bridgeport resident Edgar Fontanez-Soto, 42, on charges of rummaging through the purse and wallet of a woman whose Old Field Road residence he was painting.

The resident reported to police on Sept. 23 that she went upstairs while having the interior of her home painted. When she came downstairs, she said, she found the painter, Fontanez-Soto, going through her purse and wallet.

The property manager gave police Fontanez-Soto’s identifying information, and police took out a warrant for his arrest. Fontanez-Soto was apprehended by Bridgeport police on Oct. 17, held on a $12,500 bond, and given a court date of Oct. 28.
