Club presents books to Girls’ Zone

Lillie Ennis, center, the Junior Women’s Club of Fairfield’s CARE Committee Chairperson, presents more than 60 books to the Cardinal Shehan Center’s JWC Girls’ Zone.

The Junior Women’s Club of Fairfield presented more than 60 books collected at its Fashion Show Membership Drive to the JWC Girls’ Zone at the Cardinal Shehan Center.

As a result of a JWC Reading Challenge, four of the center’s own girls earned runway model positions in the fashion show, where guests were invited to donate books for young readers ages 10 to 18. Each guest was also invited to write a message on a custom-made bookplate inspiring the girls to keep on reading.

JWC chose the Cardinal Shehan Center as its 2014 Charitable Partner, and lent its name to develop the JWC Girls’ Zone, an inspirational section of the center devoted to girls ages 10 to 18.

“The club’s members have enjoyed getting to know the wonderful girls of the JWC Girls’ Zone this year,” says Cheryl Eustace, JWC co-president. “We were thrilled that the community joined with us to collect all of these books so that the girls may continue their adventures in reading.”
