Fairfield Theatre Co. welcomes guitarist Andy McKee

Fairfield Theatre Company welcomes the unique and exceptional guitarist, Andy McKee to StageOne on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7, 70 Sanford Street.

Considered among one of the world’s finest acoustic guitarists, with majority of his success coming from his videos on YouTube, Andy Mckee is an artist on a meteoric rise. Due to his engaging live performances and rock solid touring schedule (two hundred shows a year) this diamond in the rough has grown a global audience.

McKee is a star for the digital age, discovered because of his YouTube videos, and consistently logging 50,000 plus impressions on YouTube and Myspace every day. It’s really Andy’s attention to song structure and melodic content which elevated him above the rest. McKee began playing at the age of 13 after his father bought him an Aria nylon sting guitar. Initially underwhelmed by his guitar lessons, McKee’s electric guitar-playing cousin inspired him to continue learning by taking him out for his 16th birthday to see a guitarist named Preston Reed perform live at a clinic. McKee bought an instructional videotape from Reed and began to learn more complex guitar techniques from it. Soon Mckee began enjoying and studying the music of other artists like Michael Hedges, Don Ross, and Billy McLaughlin. To this day he still cites these four musicians as his primary influences in acoustic music along with various other musicians and groups such as; Earth Wind and Fire, The Yellowjackets, Bjork, Imogen Heap, Pantera, Eric Johnson, Peter Gabriel, Dream Theater, Bruce Hornsby, and many others.

Andy Mckee has placed multiple times in one of the top two or three spots at one of the top music performance competitions in the world – the National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition, held every year in the United States.  His talent began to get recognition after the release of his song Drifting, which is in the top eight of all music videos ever presented on the web. He was soon recruited by some of music’s top performs including Josh Groban, who asked Andy to perform on his most recent multi-platinum Christmas record, Noel, and progressive metal icons Dream Theater for whom he opened a tour in Asia, as well as asked by living-legend Prince, who watched his videos on YouTube and then asked Andy to join his band for a series of shows in Australia.

Get up close and personal with one of the most inand idiosyncratic players around. With altered tunings, partial capos, percussive hits, and tapping, Andy is one of the most inventive players around.
