Near drowning at Lake Mohegan; family makes rescue

On May 28, at 2 p.m., Fairfield officers investigated a near drowning at the north end of Lake Mohegan on Morehouse Highway.

A 23-year-old Bridgeport woman had submerged after walking the water and stepping off an underwater ledge, police said.

She was rescued by family and said she had no recollection of being pulled out.

A third party called in the report, and AMR personnel evaluated the woman, who refused treatment at the scene.

The north end is a not a designated swimming area, and police say residents should follow postings and only swim in areas that are regulated and have life guards stationed.

Fairfield Police remain committed to sending water safety messages this summer, especially after two drowning incidents last year.
