Police have not released the identity of the skateboarder struck by a car Friday night, saying only he is a 16-year-old local boy.

Sgt. Suzanne Lussier said Monday, Sept. 24, that police believe he skated into traffic when he was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta on North Benson Road near Elm Street Friday, Sept. 21, at 8:26 p.m.

Lussier said the boy was unresponsive at the scene and had suffered a head injury.

The boy was skating alone at the time of the accident, Lussier said.

A Twitter feed has been set up, twitter.com/i/#!/search/?q=%23prayforjt&src=hash, which identifies the victim by the initials JT. That includes reports that the boy may have awakened.

A passenger in the car refused medical attention for a lacerated hand, according to police.
