Dragons defeat FAA foes

The Greens Farms Academy boys soccer team went 2-0 this past week beating Hopkins 3-2 and King 3-1.
Against Hopkins, GFA scored at the four-minute mark when senior Anders Forfang knocked in his first of the year from junior Brendan Bieder of Southport.
Hopkins tied it after 34 minutes before GFA took the lead back just before the half when Forfang played a cross that went in off a Hopkins defender.
The second half was an end-to-end affair with both teams creating good scoring chances.
Hopkins tied the game in the 59th on a penalty kick, but GFA recaptured the lead nine minutes later when senior Munir Qaddourah finished off another assist by Bieder.
The final 20 minutes were a battle with GFA holding on to its 3-2 advantage.
Seniors Ryan Friend, captain Clay Garner, Spencer Hartig, Van Barnet and Charlie Salmans all made major contributions to the victory.
Juniors Wyatt Cook, Connor Eckert and Leo Filgueiras, along with sophomore Griffin Garner and freshman Charlie Mounts also played very well.
Against King after a scoreless first half, GFA jumped out to an early second-half lead by scoring 30 seconds after the kickoff.
Qaddourah assisted Hartig for the quick goal and 20 minutes later Qaddourah and Cook set up Griffin Garner to put GFA ahead 2-0.
King scored six minutes later to make it 2-1 before Hartig scored his second from Qaddourah to make the final 3-1.
Goalie Friend spearheaded a gritty defensive effort by Barnet, Forfang, Eckert and Filgueiras .
The midfield was led by Clay and Griffin Garner, Cook, Bieder, along with freshman Charlie Mounts.
