GFA booters win pair

The Greens Farms Academy girls soccer team went 2-0 on the road this week defeating Rye Country Day School 1-0 and King 2-0.
Against Rye, senior Blair Pelley earned a corner kick at the 6:33 mark and kicked a beautiful ball that sailed into the top corner of the net, which proved to be the game winner.
Throughout the match, senior Phebe Wong and sophomore Olivia Lennon from controlled the middle of the field, contesting every ball from the Wildcats.
Freshman Erin Reilly from Fairfield, along with Pelley, helped to shut down Rye’s main scorer and frustrate the rest of the offense.
With 21 minutes left in the first half against King, Lennon had a breakaway and gently placed the ball in the lower left corner of the goal to give GFA the 1-0 lead.
The second half started with the Vikings coming out hard, but GFA’s goalie junior Caroline Kruk was tough in net.
After a King breakaway that was stopped by Kruk, GFA went up 2-0 as freshman Ellie Wong found her sister, Phebe on a throw in, as she lobbed it over the King goalie.
The defensive team of Pelley, Reilly, Ellie Wong, junior Georgie Garner and sophomore Campbell Goldsmith had another great game.
