Fairfield ‘loves’ town’s libraries and librarians

To the Editor:

I love my library. Here is one of the many reasons why: My group of friends has a book club that meets at the beach during the summer months. At our August meeting, we were fortunate to have two librarians lead our discussion of The Vacationers by Emma Straub, one of the “hot” reads of the season.

Claudia Silk and Mary Coe shared background information on the author, recent criticism of the work and asked questions that highlighted key points in the novel. Our group had lots of strong feelings about the book, not all positive, and our discussion was lively, to say the least. We admit that we did veer off topic, but only to share our backgrounds… well, and just chat a little and have fun making new friends.

The librarians are available to visit your book club through the Librarians on Loan program. The program began seven years ago in conjunction with the One Book One Town events. Librarians will come to your home or wherever your club meets. Information on “booking” a librarian for your next club is available by calling 203-256-3158 or email Town Librarian Karen Ronald [email protected] with your request. At least a month’s notice is needed.

Yes, this is one good reason why I love my library, and really, the reason I love my librarians even more.
