Obituary: Anna Fagiolo, age 90, of Stamford

Anna Fagiolo, age 90, of Stamford, the loving wife of the late Remo Fagiolo, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2014.

Born in New Haven to the late Antonio and Antonetta DeMichele, Anna was a graduate of New Haven State Teachers College with a B.S. Degree in 1946 and a Masters in Remedial Reading in 1949 from the Boston University School of Education. She taught in the Milford, New Haven, and Greenwich Public Schools.

She was predeceased by her siblings Josephina, Rose, Theresa, Dominic, Lawrence, Laura, and Americo, with whom she maintained a close relationship throughout their lives.

Anna was a resident of Stamford for over 59 years. She was deeply devoted to her family, an ardent student of good cooking, and a tireless supporter of her children’s education and artistic enrichment. A reading specialist by profession, she instilled in her children a love of expressive reading, working with children, and the wonder and excitement of childhood exuberance in all things. One of her great joys was to listen to her daughters play the piano and sing. She was a very kind woman, always willing to help, and anyone who met her loved her.

Anna is survived by her two loving daughters and their husbands, Marguerite and James T. Hastings of Fairfield and Catherine Fagiolo and Michael Schmahl of Fair Oaks, CA; and her two cherished grandsons, Matthew James Hastings and William Remo Hastings, both of Fairfield. She is also survived by her nephews Andrew Porto and Michael Mastroianni, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews of the Mastroianni and DeAngelis families.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. directly at St. Luke Church in Westport. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven, CT. Friends may greet the family on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna’s memory to Masonicare Home Health & Hospice, 535 Connecticut Avenue, Suite 101, Norwalk, CT 06854.
