Health Department shuts down Fairfield blood lab

The Connecticut Department of Public Health has ordered New Jersey-based BioReference Laboratories to stop operations at its Fairfield clinic, located at 501 Kings Highway East.

According to an Aug. 29 cease and desist order issued by the department, BioReference patient service centers in Fairfield, Milford, Ansonia, Waterbury, Wallingford, New London, Norwich and North Stonington were unlicensed and ordered to halt doing business.

The order describes the clinics as blood collection facilities.

BioReference was allowed to continue to operate its Danbury clinic, which the department said was properly licensed.
