Preschool aide charged with possession of child pornography

A former Wilton preschool paraprofessional, Eric Von Kohorn, was arrested Wednesday for possession of child pornography, according to a letter sent to parents by Wilton Schools Superintendent Kevin Smith. The Associated Press reported that Von Kohorn is a Fairfield resident.

The letter states that the school district learned the paraprofessional was under investigation by “state and federal” law enforcement on June 11, and placed him on administrative leave immediately. He formally resigned his position on June 16 and has had “no further contact” with the school district since that time, the letter said.

“He was removed from school grounds [on June 11] and not permitted to return,” the letter said. “We also reported the matter to the Connecticut Department of Children and Families.”

Though Wilton police were “aware” of the situation, Chief Michael Lombardo said the investigation and arrest were all completed by state police.

The Connecticut State Police public information office could not extensively comment on the case as a news release had not been filed by Wednesday afternoon, but the office confirmed Mr. Von Kohorn was one of a number of people arrested today for “sexually based” computer crimes.

In his letter to parents, Dr. Smith said he and his staff “are all deeply troubled by this alarming situation,” but told parents there is no evidence Mr. Von Kohorn “produced the pornography himself, and no Wilton children were photographed or harmed.”

He also said Mr. Von Kohorn underwent a thorough background check prior to gaining employment with Wilton Public Schools in 2007.
