Citgo employee chases cigarette thief

An employee of the Citgo gas station on Post Road reported giving chase – first on foot, and then by car — after a female customer allegedly stole a carton of Newport Lights cigarettes, valued at $84, from the counter of the station store Saturday night, police said.

According to the police report, the employee ran after the customer and saw the woman get into a dark green Range Rover with an obstructed license plate being driven by a male accomplice. At that point, the employee resumed the chase by car, going on to the highway, but lost track of the pair at the State Street exit off I-95.

Fairfield police, who emphasized they warn citizens not to chase down perpetrators, said the reported theft resembles a similar report made last week on Black Rock Turnpike.
