Police arrested Scott Widell yesterday on multiple charges.

According to police reports, an officer on patrol spotted the 45-year-old Widell, who was wanted on outstanding warrants for burglary and violation of probation, driving his mother’s vehicle in Fairfield early Wednesday afternoon. When Widell saw the patrol car, police said, he sped away, eventually turning into his driveway, getting out of the vehicle, and running inside the house.

Police said officers repeatedly announced their presence and purpose outside the house, with no response. Police eventually entered the residence through an unlocked entrance and found Widell where he was hiding behind a bathroom door.

Widell’s burglary charge stems from a June 13 incident in which he was accused of taking his neighbor’s wallet from her car and using her credit cards to charge $87 at a local Mobil station. Police said Widell was identified using the cards on surveillance video taken at the gas station.

Widell was held on $70,000 bond; he has a court date of Sept. 9.
