Police charged Lateefah Watson, 34, with theft of liquor from Fairfield store.

According to police reports, the officer got out of his car and yelled at Watson, of 100 Elgar Place, New York, to stop, but she continued running into the traffic circle. When the police officer eventually caught up with Watson in the McDonald’s parking lot, he found her holding a bottle of Hennessy cognac, which the manager said she had hidden under her sweater before leaving the store without paying.

The store manager additionally told police that while Watson was taking the Hennessy bottle, Evan D. Brown, 30, of Archer Road in the Bronx, who was also in the store, distracted him by asking questions about different kinds of liquors. Brown had a three-year-old boy with him at the time, according to police reports.

Police said they located Brown at a nearby bus stop with the boy, who was not the biological child of Watson or Remy. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families released the child to his grandmother Saturday evening at 7, police said.

Police found Watson’s parked Honda Accord near the bus stop with additional bottles of liquor inside, some of which belonged to  Fairfield Wine and Spirits, police said.

Watson was charged with injury to or risk of impairing the morals of a child, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer.

Brown was charged with injury to or risk of impairing the morals of a child, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer.  Each was held on $2,500.00 bond and given a court date of Sept. 2.
