Bridgeport police need the public’s help to identify a suspect in a fatal shooting Sunday afternoon in the 1300 block of Park Avenue.

The victim has been identified as Ryan Hernandez, 21, of Bridgeport. He was shot at least once in the chest and taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported observing an altercation between the suspect and the victim prior to the gunfire. The confrontation was captured on a surveillance camera.

The car in which the suspects fled was described as a dark-colored sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Robert Winkler at 203-581-5224

The homicide is Bridgeport’s sixth this year.

St. Vincent’s Medical Center was put on lockdown just after 1 o’clock Sunday when the victim was taken there.

Detectives in Bridgeport are also investigating a shooting that occurred late Friday.

Police responded to St. Vincent’s Medical Center shortly after 11 p.m. on a report of a person shot. The victim said the incident happened in the area of Capitol Avenue and Main Street, but provided police with few other details.

Police checked the area where the victim said he was shot but found no evidence.

The injury, a gunshot wound to the shoulder, was not life threatening.
